Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scan a book? Tap the + button in your library and select "Scan Book". Point your camera at the barcode on the back of your book.

Why doesn't my barcode scan on older books? Some older books use a UPC code instead of an ISBN barcode. UPCs by themselves won't identify the book.

Why does ISBN text detection sometimes take multiple tries? If your book has an ISBN printed near the barcode, Bindle will try to detect it with OCR. Hold steady and ensure good lighting for best results.

Can I manually add books? Yes! Tap + and choose "Search Books" to search by title/author, or add manually if needed.

How do I track my reading progress? Open any book and update the current page number. Your progress saves automatically.

Is my data backed up? If you have iCloud enabled, your library syncs automatically across all your Apple devices.

What is Book Roulette? Can't decide what to read? Book Roulette randomly selects an unread book from your library.

What are reading queues? Organize your next reads by creating a queue manually or letting Bindle generate one based on your preferences.

What is a Series? A Series lets you organize related books (like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings) in reading order. You can track your progress through the entire series and ensure you read books in the correct sequence.

How do I create and add books to a Series? Go to Settings > Series Management to create a new series. Then, open any book's details and tap "Add to Series" to assign it to a series with a specific reading position.

What is "Enforce Reading Sequence" in a Series? When enabled, this ensures books appear in reading queues and Book Roulette only after previous books in the series are finished. For example, if you haven't finished Book 1, Book 2 won't be suggested until Book 1 is complete.

Why do search results sometimes differ from scanned results? ISBN scanning finds your exact edition, while text search prioritizes the best available covers and metadata. Bindle combines multiple sources for the most complete information.

What if the book cover or details aren't quite right? Tap the ••• menu in any book's details to edit information or search for alternative covers.

Which APIs does Bindle use for book data? Bindle uses free APIs like Open Library and Google Books to keep the app completely free. We combine multiple sources for the best possible results.
